Internet Society of Bangladesh Dhaka Chapter organized Plenary session of World IPv6 Day

Based on the success of last year’s world IPv6 day, this year Internet society again coordinated the world IPv6 Launch day on June 6, 2012 when virtually all the major technology players like Google, Microsoft, and Cisco, as well as governments and companies like Facebook, Yahoo, and many more will enable IPv6 by default.
Now, it is beyond any argument that IPv6 is essential for the future expansion and operation of the Internet. World IPv6 Launch acts as a focal point to bring existing transition efforts and industry players together, to work towards the common goal of permanently deploying IPv6 on the global Internet. By acting together on the World IPv6 Launch, ISPs, web companies, and equipment vendors are able to cooperatively address common challenges. More major Internet industry players must take action to ensure a successful transition, including offering IPv6 connectivity to users, providing services over the IPv6 network, and updating software and firmware. While the technical foundations of IPv6 are well established, significant work remains to deploy IPv6 across the globe.
Although, in Bangladesh some ISPs have deployed IPv6 in their networks, there are many more who have not yet done the test flight. Internet Society thinks that a coordinated effort among the ISPs, academia, content providers, business organizations and the government is essential for the successful widespread deployment of IPv6 in Bangladesh. In orde to expedite the deployment of IPv6 in Bangladesh the Internet Society Bangladesh Dhaka Chapter organized a Plenary session at the Institute of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) Dhaka. Professor Dr. M Lutfar Rahman, Vice chancellor Daffodil international University, Dhaka, Mr. Sumon Ahmed Sabir, Vice-president ISP Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), and Mr. Hasanul Haq Inu, MP and chairman parliamentary committee on Post and Telecommunication Bangladesh National Parliament were present as panelists. Mr, Hasanul Haq Inu emphasized on the formation of a task force and adoption of IPv6 enabled devices.
Mr. Sumon Ahmed Sabir shared his experience of IPv6 deployment. Professor Lutfor Rahman gave a brief overview of IPv6 and highlighted the key advantages of IPv6 in comparison to IPv4. Dr. Syed Faisal Hasan, president, Internet Society Bangladesh Dhaka chapter coordinated the session.
The chapter members’ meeting also took place after the plenary session. In this meeting the chapter members exchanged views about the future activities of the chapter.

The plenary will reflects views from the academia, Industry and government about the current opportunity and challenges for IPv6 deployment in Bangladesh.
